Our Yearly Paxman Get Away!

So this was a hard decision this year. We've been doing this for the past 3 years. Going to Kalispell for the long weekend in February. I had booked the condos way back in the summer this time. So we got some good ones! We were all super excited to go. David was especially excited to try out his new board this year.

This was a week after David's accident. We kept going back and forth weather we were going to go. Mom told us that they'd keep us updated and to go. So Friday morning (yup last minute) we decided we would. Brent and Tiff went up to Calgary Friday to see David before they came down. I packed after I got back from driving bus and we waited for Richard to get home. Megan and Chris were coming too with Trayden.

I felt like we needed to have some fun with our kids. They have been affected by all this too and we hadn't been able to spend some good quality time together. So away we went. We got down there around 6:30pm. The kids were super excited and were running around checking out the condo. We got a one bedroom condo, with a studio suite attached to it. That`s where Brent and Tiff stayed with their kids. It was perfect!

Then we all decided to go sit in the hot tub, which was right beside our condo. We all went and got in. Except for DJ. He is my extra sensitive kid to heat. Always has been. Usually if he sit there and dips his feet then he can normally get in. But not this time. It was kind of funny. It was cold out too. He kept dipping his toe in and then all of the sudden he slipped and fell all the way into the water. It was hilarious. He jumped up and got out. Then he put his feet in and told us it wasn`t hot anymore. Ha ha ha! Then he got in. Sheesh, what a boy!! It was pretty funny!

On Saturday we all decided that we weren`t going skiing this year without David. It just didn`t feel right. So we went and did some shopping and all met up together for lunch. Then we came back with the kids after lunch so we could go swimming at the rec center. They were super excited. We probably stayed there for 3 hours. Just swimming away and soaking in the hot tub.

After swimming, we went back to our condo and hung out. The kids had fun with their cousins, Keira and Emmett. My kids love playing with them! Then we had supper of pizza. It was a fun relaxing day. Then we put the kids to bed and hung out and played games together.

On Sunday we woke up and had breakfast and Richard and I got ready for church. We went with Chris, Megan and Trayden. The kids stayed back with Brent and Tiff. We just went for sacrament meeting. It was just what we all needed. The talks were what we needed to hear too. Love how that works.

Then we got back and we watched Keira and Emmett while Brent and Tiff went shopping for a bit. Richard took the girls swimming and I stayed back with DJ and Keira and Emmett were napping. Trayden was there too. So DJ and I went for a walk around. It was so nice out. He had fun exploring and finding things. So fun!

We decided to go out to Applebee's for supper all together. So away we went. We got in right away too, surprisingly. We put our order in and were all sitting together....when all our phones started going off with text messages. We all were sitting there reading the latest news on David. It was very devastating news, and it was hard not to start crying. We all just sat there kind of stunned and upset. It was hard to enjoy our dinner after but we tried.

Richard and I and the kids came straight back to the condo and so did Brent and Tiff. I cried on the way back. I went and found Brent and he gave me a big hug as we were both crying. The MRI results came back and the doctors basically told us that there was no hope that David would ever live a normal life IF he lived. His brain was damaged so severely that part of it looked like a big white mass. It was just so upsetting to hear. Brent called and talked to dad, and then we all sat down together and had a good talk. Richard and I talked before and even though I was crying and sad about the news I kept saying a prayer in my heart and I felt strongly that David was being looked after. At that time I didn't know if that meant he was going to live and get through this or if he was going to go back to heaven. But I felt a calming spirit and knew things would be ok either way. Every time we prayed, including the kids, we would sincerely ask for a miracle, if that was His will. That's what it was going to take to get our David back.

Anyways, it was a sobering evening. After talking a lot, we decided to play a few games. Then I was exhausted and decided to go to bed.

We got up in the morning and packed up and did a little bit of shopping. Then we headed to Cardston. Grandma Spencer was having a dinner at her house and taking all of us to see Padington Bear. So the kids were super excited about that. It was a super cute movie and all the kids had so much fun watching it!
